Marissa is originally from Northern California, but moved to Boulder, CO after graduating from the University of Miami in May 2016 with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During Marissa’s time in Miami, she was exposed to the power of Pilates in a rehabilitative setting. After experiencing Pilates first hand and through teaching fellow students, Marissa knew that Pilates was a movement therapy that she wanted to explore and ultimately use as an assessment tool and intervention with her patients. Marissa subsequently completed her comprehensive rehabilitative training through Polestar Pilates in August 2015 and became nationally certified through the Pilates Method Alliance in October 2015. Marissa’s goal is to create a positive movement experience for her patients and clients alike, focusing on precision, control, and efficiency of movement in a fun and supportive environment.
In addition to using Pilates with her patients, Marissa believes in the power of Strain-Counterstrain, a gentle, holistic, manual therapy technique used to clear underlying dysfunction and allow for pain-free movement. Marissa was originally exposed to this advanced Osteopathic technique while being treated herself and realized its profound effects. Marissa took her first official course, SCS II for the Extremities, in May 2016. Marissa plans on pursuing this technique further in her coming years as a Physical Therapist.
In her spare time Marissa enjoys traveling, hiking, playing soccer, running, and spending time with her boyfriend, their new puppy, family, and friends.
